Olympique de Marseille’s Canadian defender Derek Cornelius (27) looks set to leave the Provence club before the end of the summer transfer window. The Canadian international, who is under contract at the Vélodrome until 2028, has attracted strong interest from abroad – including Scottish Premiership club Rangers. The Glasgow-based side have reportedly been involved in advanced talks in recent days, but they now face a potential hi-jacking from Serie A newcomers Cremonese who have just made contact with OM. The Italian side are now proposing a loan with an option to buy the defender. Cornelius made 21 appearances in an OM shirt last season, but has failed to convince Roberto De Zerbi in his first year at Marseille. The incoming transfers of Facundo Medina as well as CJ Egan-Riley and potentially Leipzig defender Lutsharel Geertruida have pushed Cornelius to the exit door over the summer. He has featured off the bench for Les Olympiens but does not look to be in the picture for this season. GFFN | George Boxall
