Director of recruitment Christopher Vivell is set to bring another highly-rated South American prodigy to Manchester United.
United’s scouting network has always had an excellent record of monitoring countless talent across the globe. However, the Premier League giants have stepped up their efforts to sign up-and-coming youngsters ever since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority takeover.
Early this year, United struck a pre-contract agreement with Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno to sign their full-back Diego Leon.
The Red Devils secured the deal for the Paraguay U20 international for a £3 million upfront fee, plus £3.6m in add-ons based on performance.
The 18-year-old formally joined the Mancunians early in the summer and was part of Ruben Amorim’s pre-season squad. He has been included in the matchday squad twice this season, but only as an unused substitute.
As Leon settles into life in Manchester, he is set to be joined by a Colombian sensation.
According to Colombian Journalist Pipe Sierra (via Centre Devils), United have reached an agreement in principle to sign Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza CEIF.
The Bogotá-based team currently feature in Categoría Primera A, the top tier of Colombian football.
The 17-year-old is the captain of Colombia under-17s and plays as a defensive midfielder. The right-footed midfielder has caught the eye with his tireless work and duel-winning ability.
As per Sierra, Orozco will travel to Manchester next year to formally join United once he turns 18 in July.
Amorim’s side are crying out for a mobile midfielder capable of putting out fires and receiving the ball in tight spaces.
However, considering Orozco’s age and inexperience, it is fair to assume he is unlikely to be an answer to United’s long-standing issues in the middle of the park anytime soon.
