Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Spanish football in a new role, taking a stake in Almeria via his CR7 Sports Investments company.

The club said in a statement that he has acquired 25 per cent of UD Almeria’s shares through CR7 Sports Investments, a subsidiary of CR7 SA, and that the agreement forms part of an international expansion led by president Mohamed Al Khereiji through SMC Group.

Ronaldo once faced Almeria during an iconic spell at Santiago Bernabeu, scoring 450 goals in 438 appearances for Real Madrid. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the deal has been described as a long-term strategic investment.

The 41-year-old has long targeted club ownership after his record-breaking career. He is currently with Al-Nassr in the Middle East, tied to the most lucrative contract in world football, and is buying into a club formed in 1989.

Almeria were relegated from La Liga in 2024. They sit third in the Segunda Division, two points behind leaders Racing Santander, and remain in the promotion race.

The club were taken over by a Saudi investment group in May 2025. Ronaldo’s profile, contacts and commercial pull will be welcomed at Power Horse Stadium, and there remains the possibility of further CR7 investments before he retires.
