Crysencio Summerville says West Ham let themselves down as their Premier League campaign ended in relegation. The winger said in an Instagram post that players and supporters shared deep disappointment and that the comeback starts now.
West Ham beat Leeds 3-0 on the final day, but Tottenham’s win over Everton sealed the drop. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side finished on 39 points, two short of Spurs and eight behind Leeds in 14th.
Nuno has chosen to stay in a bid for an immediate return, though there is a reported £150million to raise through sales. Summerville is among those who could command a significant fee after a strong finish.
In 2023 he was minded to stay at Leeds and fight for promotion, then starred under Daniel Farke. After play-off final defeat to Southampton, West Ham triggered a release clause worth just over £25million plus add-ons.
Summerville’s attention now turns to the World Cup after a first Netherlands call-up, having missed March duty through injury. Leeds will not receive any appearance-related bonus if he features in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The Netherlands are set to face Sweden and Japan in the groups, so he could meet Leeds pair Gabriel Gudmundsson and Ao Tanaka, with Tunisia completing the quartet.
