Nottingham Forest viewed West Ham United attacker Crysencio Summerville as an ideal replacement when Anthony Elanga joined Newcastle United, according to The Athletic.

Borussia Dortmund also wanted to lure the West Ham star away from the London Stadium club during the summer transfer window.

The Bundesliga club enquired about signing the 23-year-old Dutchman on loan, but nothing materialised, with Summerville remaining with the Hammers after the deadline.

The former Leeds United star had no interest in leaving West Ham despite the interest, informing his representatives he had unfinished business at the club.

The Hammers supported him during his long-term injury spells, and he was unwilling to leave last month as he believes he has the duty of paying them back for how they stood by him.

Summerville sustained a hamstring injury in manager Graham Potter’s first game in charge of the East London club back in January, only returning to action in last Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Forest at the City Ground.

He suffered setbacks during his rehabilitation and was an immediate hit upon his return, providing an assist and winning a penalty.

West Ham could have been open to selling him had he indicated a willingness to leave in the summer.

However, Summerville chose to stay and could end up being like a new signing going forward.

He returned at a time when West Ham were in dire need of a victory following league defeats to Sunderland and Chelsea and elimination from the Carabao Cup by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Hammers are back in action after the international break when they host Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, and Summerville will be looking forward to the game.

He is unlikely to start against Spurs but he has what it takes to force his way into the starting XI of the West Ham boss in the coming weeks, and the fans will be excited about his return.
