Crystal Palace claimed a 2-1 comeback victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
Both teams were evenly matched in the opening half hour, with neither goalkeeper called into action until the 35th minute.
Newcastle’s Aaron Ramsdale produced two sharp saves to deny Yeremy Pino and Daniel Munoz.
Moments later, the hosts could’ve scored the opener as Jaydee Canvot met Pino’s corner, but his header flew wide.
Despite the Eagles’ spell of pressure, the visitors struck first in the 43rd minute as William Osula finished off a well-worked move.
Osula went close to doubling his tally after the restart, but Dean Henderson denied him.
Pino could’ve restored parity for the hosts after he met Tyrick Mitchell’s pass, but he fired wide.
Palace went close to drawing level as Jefferson Lerma met Pino’s free kick, but his header struck the crossbar.
Jean-Philippe Mateta finally restored parity for Palace after he headed home Mitchell’s pass in the 80th minute.
The Eagles were awarded a penalty after Lerma was brought down in the area in stoppage time.
Mateta converted the spot kick to seal the victory for Palace.
Palace have moved up to 13th in the Premier League standings with seven games to go.
