Eagles sweating over two key names ahead of huge European semi-final
Crystal Palace have been handed a double injury boost ahead of their Europa Conference League semi-final against Shakthar Donetsk on Thursday.
The Eagles are into the last four of Europe’s tertiary competition, and they take on the Ukrainian outfit managed by former Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan.
Palace reached the semi-finals with a 4-2 aggregate victory over experienced Serie A side Fiorentina in the last eight.
Now, they are on step closer to the final, which will be held in Leipzig on Wednesday, May 27.
Palace were sweating over the fitness of left-back Tyrick Mitchell, who had been suffering with a minor Achilles problem after he was forced off in the 3-1 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield.
There were fears that he would not be available to face Shakthar, but the full-back sat alongside his manager in the pre-match press conference, indicating that he would be fit and available for the tie.
“I always have to be very careful what I'm saying before,” Glasner said.
“I said T[yrick] was reliable and he went off at half-time.”
Glasner also issued an update on Evann Guessand, the January loan signing from Aston Villa, who has been out with a knee injury that he sustained earlier this month.
“Evann is progressing,” Glasner continued.
“It's usually with the injury he has, it's really normal not possible that he could play the second leg, but then we said 'ok, it's the end of the season', and we were very aggressive with the rehab, so he's on the pitch, working well, there's no reaction in his knee.
“We're working towards the second leg that he might be available for the second leg for a few minutes. If we need this, of course it can happen, we hope he's then available.”
