Guehi was injured in Palace’s 3-1 Conference League win over AZ Alkmaar last week but the centre-back has joined up with the England squad and Tuchel has provided a positive update on his fitness.

Tuchel says England will be without Guehi against Serbia on Thursday but it is hoped he might be fit for their final World Cup qualifier against Albania in Tiran on Sunday.

Guehi was injured in an incident at the end of the AZ game as he conceded a yellow card.

He missed Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Brighton and Palace boss Oliver Glasner said over the weekend that he “can't even walk”

But Palace will hope he is fit when they play Wolves at Molineux in their first game back after the international break on November 22.

Speaking on Wednesday, Tuchel said: “With Marc it is very painful but there is no structural damage so it is all about the pain. There is a possibility that overnight from one day to the next that we have a significant improvement.

“So we are working, realistically, towards the second game. If he is not in training, let’s say, on Friday or Saturday then we will not make him travel. Then he gets rest and treatment and can stay in London.

“It is nice. He wants to stay with us and we wanted him to stay close. He is one of the leaders, he is an important member of the team, he is an important glue between many players and it is nice to see.

“He tries everything to be included in the second match and we wanted to have the opportunity, that is why we assess him every day.”
