Crystal Palace continue their hunt for a trophy on Tuesday, hosting a Carabao Cup third-round London derby against Championship side Millwall.
The core narrative of the tie pits Palace’s formidable defence against a Millwall side seeking a major upset. The Eagles are unbeaten this season but have struggled for goals, while the Lions’ cup run has provided a welcome distraction from their inconsistent league form.
Oliver Glasner is expected to heavily rotate his squad for the cup tie. He remains without several key players due to injury, including Ismaïla Sarr, Adam Wharton, Eddie Nketiah, and Cheick Doucouré. This will provide opportunities for a number of players, with goalkeeper Walter Benítez and defender Jaydee Canvot both set to make their first starts for the club.
Manager Alex Neil has a relatively fit squad for the trip to south London, with Billy Mitchell the only notable absentee. Given the occasion, Neil may opt to field a strong side. Midfielders Luke Cundle and Massimo Luongo are among those pushing for a start after impressing in the earlier rounds of the competition.
The Eagles are unbeaten in six competitive matches this season, a run built on an exemplary defensive record. They have kept five clean sheets in those six games, conceding only one Premier League goal. However, their attack has struggled for fluency. They have drawn three of their last four matches and scored just five goals all season.
The Lions have had an inconsistent start in the Championship, winning just one of their last four fixtures to sit 13th in the table. Their cup run has been a bright spot, however. They can also draw confidence from their strong away form, as they are unbeaten in four trips on the road this season.
Crystal Palace predicted XI: Benitez; Clyne, Canvot, Guehi; Munoz, Hughes, Devenny, Mitchell; Esse, Kamada; Mateta
Millwall predicted XI: Benda; Leonard, Taylor, Cooper, Bryan; Neghli, Luongo, Cundle, Emakhu; Ivanovic, Coburn
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Football in the UK. Coverage begins at 7:30 pm BST.
