Cucurella honours Spain boss with World Cup tattoo | OneFootball

Marc Cucurella has fulfilled his promise to honour Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente by getting a tattoo following the nation’s World Cup triumph.

The Spain defender revealed the new ink on social media after helping his country lift the trophy with a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final. The tattoo features a portrait of De la Fuente holding the World Cup alongside the number 26, commemorating Spain’s successful campaign.

“Promise kept,” Cucurella wrote as he shared photos and a video of the tattoo being completed. The gesture follows a light-hearted pledge made during Spain’s run to the title, with De la Fuente joking after the final that he expected his players to follow through.

“I’ve already told them, ‘did you make a mistake?'” the Spain coach said after the victory. “They did, but they’ll enjoy it.

“I’m not so terribly ugly that they will need to put it somewhere nobody can see it. But it makes me laugh and I am proud they keep their promises.”

Cucurella was one of Spain’s standout performers throughout the tournament as De la Fuente’s side claimed the country’s second World Cup title, adding to their triumph in 2010. The defender completed a £52 million move from Chelsea to Real Madrid earlier this summer after an impressive campaign at both club and international level.

The 27-year-old has become known for embracing personal traditions during major tournaments. Throughout Spain’s World Cup campaign, he carried his wife’s pyjama top as a good-luck charm, while he has also explained that he keeps his trademark long, curly hair because it helps one of his children spot him easily during matches.
