Samuel Dahl has been left out of Sweden’s 2026 World Cup squad, a call that has surprised Benfica supporters and fans in Sweden. According to Glorioso 1904, Graham Potter named his final list on Tuesday, and the left-back did not make it.
The Nordic nation return to the tournament after eight years away.
Despite strong performances for Benfica this season, Dahl did not convince the Sweden coach, who excluded him from the options for Group F, where they will face Tunisia, the Netherlands and Japan.
While Dahl, previously praised by Mourinho, misses out, Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting and Braga centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke are included. The World Cup will be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
For Benfica this term, Dahl has made 52 appearances, 32 in the Liga Portugal Betclic, 13 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 4,507 minutes, the Swede has scored two goals and supplied two assists. He is valued at €12 million.
