Manchester United returned to business as usual under Ruben Amorim over the weekend, falling to a 3-1 defeat to Brentford.
The result ensures Amorim’s side remain without back-to-back wins in the Premier League since Amorim took charge of the club in November 2024.
As usual, the ex-Sporting CP tactician was quick to defend his system, stating: “When we win, it’s not the system. When we lose, it’s the system.”
Strong words from the United head coach who has registered nine wins in 33 Premier League games.
Amorim, who slammed his players for making a “frustrating” mistake against Brentford, has full confidence in his tactics and philosophy, but it seems not many are behind him and his ideas at Carrington.
According to CentreDevils’ Sully, Amorim is described as a “lonely man” internally.
It is revealed that the United boss “often walks away from the team” in training and after losses he “sometimes sits on his own and doesn’t speak to anyone.”
The report further states: “One source feels the job has broken him mentally and he looks like a ghost of his former self from when he first joined.”
The atmosphere within United is “one of the lowest it has been in a long time.”
The club’s hierarchy continue to publicly back Amorim, insisting they aren’t looking at any managers. However, the same message was conveyed days before Ineos sacked Erik ten Hag last year in October.
On Sunday, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been in direct contact with former England head coach Gareth Southgate in recent weeks.
United welcome newly-promoted Sunderland to Old Trafford before the international break. Anything other than a convincing win could prove to be catastrophic for Amorim.
