Daniel Farke has a timely boost, with Anton Stach returning to Leeds United fresh from Germany duty.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, his first call-up in four years brought warm-ups against Switzerland and Ghana. He played 10 minutes at 3-3 versus Switzerland, a 4-3 win, while club team-mate Noah Okafor was an unused substitute for Switzerland.

On Monday in Stuttgart he stayed on the bench as Kai Havertz and Deniz Undav sealed a 2-1 win. With flexible friendly rules, Julian Nagelsmann made eight changes but still did not use the Leeds midfielder.

Stach has been near ever-present, missing only a handful of league games through injury. Before the break he completed 90 in taxing matches against Manchester City, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Brentford, so the rest is timely.

Leeds visit West Ham for an FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday, then return to the league at Manchester United on Monday, April 13. Farke must weigh Wembley hopes against survival needs, so selection at the London Stadium could be measured.

He will also welcome others back unscathed. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has not featured since being sent back by England after a substitute outing against Uruguay, while Wales play tonight with Craig Bellamy’s choices uncertain as Daniel James is monitored and Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu stay in camp.

Okafor’s Switzerland, Ao Tanaka’s Japan and Jaka Bijol’s Slovenia also play tonight, and Gabriel Gudmundsson is expected to feature for Sweden against Poland.
