Daniel Farke says Leeds United will tread carefully in January after securing Facundo Buonanotte as their first signing.

According to Leeds Live, he views it as his responsibility to explore options given the club’s scale, yet he stressed Leeds will be selective, with many eager to join but standards high.

Leeds completed their first deal on Thursday, bringing in the 21-year-old after his Chelsea loan was cut short following limited minutes. He had been close to joining late in the summer until Chelsea intervened, prompting Leeds to pivot towards Harry Wilson, who had agreed terms and signed documents before Fulham pulled the plug.

Wilson has since hit six goals and four assists in his last 12 Premier League games, fuelling a five-game unbeaten run that has Fulham ninth. Marco Silva has said there is “zero chance” the winger leaves this month, and whether Leeds try again in the summer, when he is due to be a free agent, is unclear.

Buonanotte is eligible to feature this weekend if Farke considers him ready. The manager remains open to two, perhaps three additions in January, but with one defeat in eight and Leeds eight points clear of the drop zone, he warned against disrupting a dressing room he feels is moving in the right direction.
