Leeds United resume Premier League action after Christmas away to fellow promoted Sunderland, with Daniel Farke delivering a mixed fitness update and a raft of likely absentees across both squads. Farke's concerns are lighter than Regis le Bris's selection problems.

According to Leeds Live, Farke's position was questioned at the start of December. Leeds have since gone four unbeaten, taking eight points from 12, which has steadied belief he can keep them in the top flight.

Farke rated Lukas Nmecha only a small possibility to feature after three games out and hopes the forward rejoins team training this week. Sean Longstaff will not return this weekend because of a calf problem that has sidelined him for a month. Daniel James remains out indefinitely following a hamstring strain at Manchester City.

Sunderland are without six players at the Africa Cup of Nations, the most of any Premier League club. Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava and Arthur Masuaku are away, while Bertrand Traore and Chemsdine Talbi are also on duty. Talbi has already scored notable goals against Chelsea and Liverpool this season.

Luke O'Nien continues a suspension for his early-December red card against Manchester City. Aji Alese, who broke his leg in January, has not featured since their promotion.
