Daniel Farke will settle on Leeds United’s shape before selecting Ethan Ampadu’s stand-in for Sunday’s match against Manchester United, according to Leeds Live.

The captain collected his fifth booking in 19 Premier League matches during Thursday’s goalless draw at Anfield, with referee Chris Kavanagh showing a controversial caution for what he judged a deliberate act. Ampadu now serves a one match ban.

Farke was still struggling to accept the decision and, with sarcasm, suggested he might ask the FA to take the yellow card away. He described Ampadu as a key player but kept plans guarded, stressing the formation choice comes first.

Leeds are light in midfield, with Sean Longstaff seemingly not yet ready to return from a calf injury. Farke also listed Joe Rodon and Daniel James as out, and said they would pick between a back five or a back four before deciding personnel.

Ilia Gruev went off before full time at Anfield, which Farke thought was cramp, and he hopes the midfielder will be fine for Sunday. He noted Gruev is a natural alternative for Ampadu but his use depends on recovery from Thursday’s workload.
