Daniel Farke: Very happy for the boys | OneFootball

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke was pleased with his side’s performance as they ran out 1-0 winners over Sunderland at the Sports Illustrated Stadium.

The German’s compatriot Lukas Nmecha scored the decisive goal, instinctively spotting the opposition goalkeeper in no-mans-land and finding the back of the net from distance.

After earning a first victory of the pre-season campaign, the boss was thrilled with his team’s display in New Jersey, explaining: “Just very happy. The next minutes under our belt in a very competitive game against another Premier League side.

“Yeah, very happy for the boys for a really, really solid and good performance. It is always good to have a first win under your belt especially also against a good side, gives self confidence. I am definitely happy with the clean sheet."

On goals for the remainder of pre-season, Farke explained: “Just more hard work, of course, so to build the physicality for a long season of more or less 11 months. Of course, we work a lot tactically on our defensive behaviour, offensive behaviour."

The encounter also brought a first start for new addition Tarik Muharemović, who was impressive in the heart of defence. Discussing the centre-half’s first outing in white, Farke added: “Quality. So, I could see some, in each and every moment, he serves with great authority and great appearance on the pitch.

“Very intelligent player, reads the game really well. Many, many intercepted passes, smart and strong duels, left footed, what we needed. He is a top guy. I think you could see his quality shine through in each and every moment."
