Danilo’s 13th Campeonato Brasileiro appearance for Botafogo has ended Palmeiras’ bid to re-sign the midfielder after weeks of talks without a financial agreement.

Palmeiras were awaiting Botafogo’s reply to an offer for their academy graduate. According to Nosso Palestra, the São Paulo club were prepared to reach 25 million euros in guaranteed fees.

An official answer did not arrive, and the clearest indication came when Danilo was introduced after 20 minutes of the second half against Vitória, which makes a domestic sale impossible this season.

Botafogo were unconvinced by an internal deal and prioritised a European transfer. Danilo also prefers Europe, though if he were to stay in Brazil, Palmeiras would have been his first choice.

To date, Zenit are the only club to have made a formal bid. The proposal appeals to Botafogo, but the midfielder is not inclined, at least initially, to play in Russian football.

Palmeiras host Atlético-MG at Nubank Parque on Sunday 26 at 19:30 Brasília time in the 20th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Attention now turns to how Abel Ferreira sets up his side amid a series of absences.
