Danilo urges Flamengo self-critique after draws, says side 'below potential' | OneFootball

Danilo called for self-critique after Flamengo drew 1-1 with Internacional at Beira-Rio on Wednesday in the 21st round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

"It is not about results or points, it is about the team and the way of playing. We have to work, we will have 15 days to close the doors and start again," said right-back Varela. He told Amazon Prime.

Assessing recent stumbles, Danilo admitted clear dissatisfaction and said the team had been below its potential in successive draws. He urged every player to look inward and use the break to work and, where necessary, recondition, stressing that the season will resume with important decisions.

He added that the squad must reconnect with Leonardo Jardim’s game ideas. Danilo described the Portuguese coach as serious, sincere and hardworking, noting each manager has his own convictions and that the group are accepting them and dedicating themselves to improve as soon as possible.

Flamengo host Vitória at the Maracanã on 9 August, Saturday, at 19:30 Brasília time, in round 22. They are second in the table, eight points behind leaders Palmeiras.
