Ramadan, one of the most significant periods in the Islamic calendar, has begun. For around 29 or 30 days, depending on the moon, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset in a time of prayer, reflection and solidarity. Valencia forward Arnaut Danjuma, a Dutchman of Nigerian heritage, treats the month as central to his life and career.
According to Superdeporte, this year’s observance runs from the night of Tuesday, 17 February 2026 to Thursday, 19 March 2026. He has been sidelined by injury in recent weeks, yet he has often set out how he aligns elite football with his faith.
During his time in England, Danjuma said fasting did not hinder his performance, describing it as spiritual growth that he absorbs naturally into his routine. For him, it is about drawing closer to God and family and supporting people in need.
He adapts his preparation to the context of Ramadan, aiming not to compromise competitive levels. He pays particular attention to nutrition before dawn and when breaking the fast, prioritising sustained energy, proper hydration and optimal recovery after training or matches.
Danjuma has also documented the depth of his faith, travelling to Mecca to perform umrah. He shared images in the ihram and later called the pilgrimage one of the most impactful moments of his life. He consulted experienced travellers beforehand but concluded the feeling was beyond words, recalling an intense calm and a powerful sense of community inside the Masjid al-Haram.
