Liverpool Eye Bradley Barcola in Bold PSG Move Amid Transfer Jigsaw

With the Premier League curtain-raiser fast approaching, Liverpool are already dominating the conversation off the pitch. In a packed episode of Newsround for Anfield Index, Dave Davis pulled no punches in unpacking the whirlwind of transfer activity swirling around the club. And while the Darwin Núñez exit and Alexander Isak saga grabbed headlines, it was the surprising emergence of Bradley Barcola that sent tongues wagging and keyboards tapping.

PSG Starlet on Liverpool’s Radar

The big twist came late on Wednesday evening. As Davis put it, “All of a sudden, coming from the French side, wasn’t it? Liverpool are in talks, Liverpool are interested and set to make an offer for Bradley Barcola.”

The young PSG forward, known for his blistering pace and versatility, has apparently caught the eye of Liverpool’s recruitment team. Davis confirmed that Sacha Tavolieri reported “Liverpool is set to proceed with a concrete offer to Paris Saint-Germain,” noting that the Reds are “very determined to transform their interest into a bid.”

Barcola, capable of playing left, right, or even centrally in a false nine role, fits Liverpool’s modern mould of a multi-functional attacker. Davis described him as “rapid, absolutely rapid,” while also referencing his recent starring performances for PSG.

But there’s a sticking point. As Davis pointed out, “The deal won’t be under 100 million euros,” a figure that would certainly test Liverpool’s willingness to invest heavily in another young forward, especially with Isak negotiations ongoing.

Mendes Factor and PSG’s Stance

There’s also a layer of complexity involving super agent Jorge Mendes. Davis highlighted Mendes’ strong ties with PSG’s upper brass, including Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Luis Campos, saying: “Mendes does have at least six clients with PSG, a good relationship with Al-Khelaifi as well, well reported.”

Davis didn’t shy away from the speculation, asking whether the link was a genuine pursuit, a tactical ploy in the Isak deal, or a contractual manoeuvre by Mendes amid Barcola’s stalled renewal talks. “Is this one of those… if you don’t do the business, there’s options?” he pondered aloud.

Meanwhile, PSG have made their stance clear. “They want to keep Barcola and offer him a new deal,” Davis relayed from Fabrizio Romano, adding that Luis Enrique and other PSG decision-makers are fully aligned on retaining the French talent.

Liverpool’s Youth Dilemma: Barcola vs Ngumoha

If Liverpool fans were buzzing with excitement over Barcola, James Pearce quickly poured some cold water on proceedings. Citing the club’s internal concerns, Pearce wrote that “pursuing someone of his profile would act as a pathway blocker for talented teenager Rio Ngumoha.”

Davis acknowledged this perspective but remained sceptical about its full validity: “Signing Bradley Barcola instead of Alexander Isak doesn’t do that,” he argued. “Barca can play anywhere across that line… speed that would terrify defences.”

Crucially, Davis emphasised that the line from Pearce could be club messaging rather than the full picture, suggesting Liverpool’s admiration for both Barcola and Ngumoha might coexist.

Final Word: Wait and See

Despite the noise, Davis offered a measured conclusion to the Barcola segment: “There’s just a little bit of uncertainty right now across the board,” adding that while he would “adore both” Barcola and Isak at the club, the developments with the PSG forward may fizzle out. “It might be just a little bit of a link that we’ll probably forget.”

Still, in a transfer window brimming with twists, Liverpool’s name being linked so strongly with a PSG starlet of Barcola’s calibre signals intent. Whether that materialises into a serious bid or serves as strategic leverage remains to be seen.
