Dave Watson has criticised Sunderland supporters after the 5-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

"Do you know what [expletive] me off watching that game is that even though it’s a disaster for Sunderland, they’ve had an unbelievable season and at three and four nil the stadium were out." He was speaking on the Ben Foster podcast.

Sunderland made a relatively steady start, but once Forest went ahead the game quickly unravelled, Régis Le Bris’ side conceding three by the 34th minute. The collapse prompted thousands to leave before the interval, some even making it home to watch the second half on television.

"Honestly, for what they have done that team this year and yes, it was a very very bad night at the office, but them supporters let themselves and that team down on that night. The players let themselves down, let’s not have it wrong, but come on. What they have delivered this season has been unreal."

His playing career was cut short at 28 by a serious knee injury, and he was unable to return to first-team football before retiring in 2001. He also represented England at youth level.

Watson moved into coaching and built a strong reputation as a goalkeeping coach, working for Northampton Town, Oldham Athletic, Huddersfield Town, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City.
