Liverpool’s transfer priority right now would appear to be Florian Wirtz. The German playmaker is the subject of intense negotiations between the Reds and his club - Bayer Leverkusen.
The 2023/24 Bundesliga champions are aiming for a deal worth £126m, and Liverpool are currently some way short of that total - offering £100m and £13m more in add-ons at last count.
Depending on how soon the Merseysiders get this deal done, focus will then shift onto other areas. A centre-forward is a necessity, with Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota failing to convince Arne Slot despite delivering a Premier League title-winning campaign.
If the right bids come in then both could depart - and Liverpool have got an extensive shortlist when it comes to potential upgrades.
Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap were reported to be of interest - but both have now completed deals elsewhere.
That leaves Liverpool a little lighter on options than previously believed - but David Ornstein has revealed which two names are now in the frame.
Alexander Isak of Newcastle and Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt have long been touted for a Liverpool arrival. One complicating factor for Isak is the price tag, with Newcastle seeking up to £150m for their star attraction.
Ekitike won’t come cheap either - with his club said to be looking to bank €100m for their forward.

“The future of Darwin Nunez has been well-documented,” Ornstein explained on The Athletic FC podcast.
“There's an opportunity for him to leave. I think the expectation is that he will be sold and, therefore, we could see somebody come in in that position.
“I think Liverpool are among those, understandably, that have liked Alexander Isak. There's admiration for somebody like Hugo Ekitike.
“And decisions will have to be made, and I'm sure that's something Liverpool are thinking about, and will have multiple options, no doubt, if and when that situation develops.”
Liverpool will be hoping to rake in around £100m for Nunez and Jota in total, establishing a decent fund for improvements.
