He is one of the Red Bulls’ key players – and David Raum is also a regular starter for Germany. At EURO 2024 on home soil, our captain earned his starting spot under Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann and went on to feature in every World Cup qualifier and friendly before the squad announcement (8 games, 1 goal).

David has now been named in the 26-man squad for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

  1. "This call-up is something really special for me. It means I’m among the best footballers in Germany – and I’ve worked incredibly hard for that. Being named in the squad means another dream has come true for me. The little boy in me, who used to pretend he was playing at a World Cup in the park, now gets to take part in another World Cup. I’m massively excited."

Third major tournament in Germany colours

After the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and EURO 2024 in Germany, this will be David’s third major tournament with Germany. The 28-year-old has won 36 caps since his debut in the 6-0 win over Armenia on 5th September 2021.

His only Germany goal so far was a memorable one, as he curled in a free-kick to make it 1-0 in a crucial World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg to set Julian Nagelsmann’s side on their way to victory.

Julian Nagelsmann on Raum’s call-up

  1. "David, I’m incredibly happy that you’re part of this team. You bring a brilliantly infectious energy. The hunger you have off the pitch to lift people’s spirits is the same hunger you show on the pitch to win games. That really helped us in World Cup qualifying, and it will help us at the World Cup too. You’re always in a good mood, always have a smile on your face, you’re a very warm person and you’ll bring a lot to this team."

Growing into his role as captain
