Speaking to L’Équipe, cited by Sky Germany, Bayern Munich and France international Dayot Upamecano (27) has provided an update on his future, with the defender’s contract set to expire in the summer.
“My agent is taking care of that,” said Upamecano. “We’ll make the right decision. I am focused on this season and my goals with the club and the national team.”
When asked about interest from other clubs, the Frenchman added: “I’m under contract with Bayern. I feel honoured when clubs are interested in me.
“I’ve always said that I feel comfortable at Bayern. I have a great coach and great teammates.”
Negotiations between Bayern and Upamecano have been ongoing for some time now but, as reported last month, there has been a potential breakthrough in negotiations with both parties.
One option presented is a four-year extension that would include a release clause after two seasons, which would be reduced after a third season.
As well as interest from Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea are two clubs that have previously shown an interest in signing Upamecano, who already had a release clause but with an expiring contract, is now irrelevant as clubs can open talks with the player in January because with six months remaining on the defender’s deal.
