DC United has officially signed 18-year-old midfielder Gavin Turner, one of the standout players of the U.S. youth national teams. The teenager signed through the year 2027, with options in 2028 and 2029, joining the first team with high expectations.
Turner is yet another example of DC United's strong dedication to developing homegrown talent. He joined the club's youth academy at the U-12 level, advancing through the ranks until making his first professional appearance for Loudoun United FC in 2022. He has since gained useful minutes and impressed in domestic play.
For DC United’s General Manager, Ally Mackay, Turner’s signing is part of a solid development plan for the club: “Gavin is a young talent who has grown within our system and demonstrated a high soccer IQ. His potential is enormous, and we’re excited about his progression with the first team.”
Even at a young age, Turner already has the pertinent professional experience. He has played 18 times for Loudoun United FC and has directly contributed to the team in various competitions. He achieved his first assist in the U.S. Open Cup, showing his attacking contribution.
In addition to club football, Turner has represented the United States at the U-15 and U-16 levels, finding the net once in five appearances. This exposure could be a significant reason for his switch to Major League Soccer and overall development in this new challenge.
Turner's transfer to the first team is hardly a sure bet, it's a sign that DC United is still committed to developing its roster through homegrown talent. The club believes that with more development, he has the potential to become a significant cog in their long-term plan.
Having signed a multi-year contract and developed steadily over the past few years, Turner at last has his opportunity to establish himself in MLS. If he impresses, the young midfielder could yet have a pivotal role to play in revitalizing the team.
