Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona's captain in San Sebastián, vented at Anoeta after their game, lamenting officiating decisions and strained exchanges with referee Gil Manzano. He said the fourth official told him an offside call was not offside and complained he could not talk to the referee as captain.
According to AS, the discontent within the Barcelona squad was widespread, expressed in the mixed zone and on social media.
De Jong added that, late in stoppage time, he urged the referee to crack down on delays but no extra time was added for it, calling the situation shameful before being shown a yellow card. He also recalled a similar episode at the same ground last season.
On the football, he felt Barcelona deserved more, saying they created many chances but failed to take them. He praised Remiro for an outstanding display.
Midfielder Fermín, whose goal was ruled out for a prior foul, posted a still from the TV broadcast highlighting Lamine’s offside in the disallowed goal for Barcelona’s No 10, accompanied by laughing emojis.
João Cancelo maintained Barcelona had the upper hand, but said such nights happen in football.
