Charles De Ketelaere provided two goals and three assists for Atlanta during Tuesday night’s 6-1 thrashing of Young Boys in the Champions League, and in doing so, joined an elite club of players who have registered five goal involvements in a single Champions League game.
As per Opta, no player has ever registered more than five goal involvements in a single Champions League match.
Three players have scored five times in a single Champions League game since 1992: Lionel Messi in a 7-1 Barcelona win over Bayer Leverkusen in 2012, Luiz Adriano in a 7-0 Shakhtar Donetsk win over BATE Borisov in 2014 and most recent Erling Haaland in a 7-0 Manchester City victory over RB Leipzig in 2023.
Though De Ketelaere was involved all of Atalanta’s first five goals against Young Boys, UEFA decided to award the man of the match award to Italy international Mateo Retegui instead.
The Azzurri striker also got two goals on the night, and is now up to 14 goals in all from 17 appearances in all competitions so far this season, including 12 from 13 in Serie A.
