Jaydon Banel settled the game in the 22nd minute with a low strike from outside the box, as Derby County beat Oxford United 1-0. It was his first goal for Derby.
On a fast break, Banel drilled a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, the forward bursting into space as Derby transitioned at speed.
He threatened again with a left-footed effort from a tight angle that was blocked (28.). Later, he arrived onto Sam Szmodics' pass but dragged wide from the centre of the box (65.). He was withdrawn late on (86.) after a tireless shift.
Banel finished with four attempts, two successful dribbles and won possession seven times, a blend of direct running and work rate that repeatedly forced Oxford United back.
The Rams rise from eighth to seventh in the Championship. Derby visit Norwich City next, while Oxford United host Wrexham.
