Amine Gouiri halved the deficit in the 85th minute with a close-range finish as Marseille were beaten 2-1 at Monaco.

Before that, the Algeria forward knitted Les Olympiens' left side, threading Benjamin Pavard for a blocked attempt (28.). He then released Tim Weah for a shot from distance (32.).

After the restart, his inswinging cross set up Pierre-Emile Højbjerg for a header that just cleared the bar (67.). He kept probing for Les Phocéens and later teed up Facundo Medina, whose effort was saved by Lukas Hradecky in the first minute of stoppage time in the second half.

He finished with two attempts, five key passes and three successful dribbles, underlining how he carried much of Les Phocéens' chance creation.

His blend of quick combinations on the flank and early deliveries drew defenders out, opening lanes to attack the box for that late finish.

Les Phocéens host Metz next. Les Rouge et Blanc visit Paris FC.
