Deco ‘monitoring’ Andreas Schjelderup as Mourinho shapes Benfica winger | OneFootball

Andreas Schjelderup’s progress under José Mourinho at Benfica has caught the eye in Catalunya after his display against the Netherlands, where the winger opened his account.

Sport reports that Barcelona sporting director Deco is discreetly monitoring the Norway international’s development and highlights Mourinho’s role in his improvement.

The paper adds that Deco has the player on a list, with any move said to depend on Marcus Rashford remaining in the Barcelona squad. It also says Raphinha’s injury, around five weeks, will put more pressure on the Englishman, who will try to use that window to convince the sporting department to act on his high purchase clause.

According to the report, Mourinho is turning Schjelderup into a player who warrants attention, and after resolving legal issues linked to a sexual video, he is asserting himself as a left winger with significant potential.

"I did not know that, but if so, fantastic," said Schjelderup when asked about Barcelona’s interest, in a recent interview with TV2.

Benfica are considering a new deal for the winger, who is contracted until the summer of 2028 and has a €100 million release clause.
