On Friday afternoon, Fermin Lopez signed his new contract with FC Barcelona, which ties him down to the club until 2031 and comes with a significant raise to match his status in the squad.
The Blaugrana sporting director, Deco, has done a brilliant job of securing the futures of the young core of the team, having completed multiple key renewals over the past year.
With Fermin’s contract extension now clinched, the former Portugal midfielder has already shifted his sights to the next challenge on the agenda.
Indeed, according to SPORT, after securing Fermin’s renewal, Deco is already focused on tying down the future of forward Ferran Torres at Barcelona.
The former Manchester City ace, who has been at the club for four years now, is on a contract that runs until 2027.
It means Ferran will be entering the final year of his contract in the summer – a situation that Deco and club president Joan Laporta are intent on avoiding.

As such, work is now set to begin to secure the contract extension of the Spanish international, who has overtaken Robert Lewandowski as the team’s main No. 9 in the ongoing season.
So far this term, Ferran has played 30 matches in all competitions, racking up 16 goals in the process across 1725 minutes.
Regardless of whether Deco opts to sign another striker next summer, the sporting director’s task is clear: to offer Ferran a role and a contract that reflect his current sporting reality.
A forward with his numbers will attract plenty of interest on the market, and while Ferran has always insisted that his dream is to succeed at Barça, both parties will need to agree on clear conditions if they are to continue together beyond 2027.
