The Andalusians come from behind in a match in which Villarreal started in control

Sevilla won at La Cerámica (2-3). The Yellows lost to the Andalusians in a match they started winning, with goals from Gerard and Mikautadze. After levelling the contest before the break, with goals from Oso and Kike Salas, the visitors ended up taking all three points thanks to a goal from Akor Adams in the middle of the second half.

Villarreal, who came into the clash after taking a point away to Mallorca (1-1), were looking to extend their positive run at the Estadio de la Cerámica and take a giant step in the attractive battle they are fighting with Atlético de Madrid for third place. Facing them was a Sevilla side that had significantly improved their performance in recent weeks, but still needed a win to definitively secure survival.

A demanding match awaited the Yellows, and they approached it with maximum ambition. After the match at Son Moix, the Asturian coach made a large number of changes to the starting XI, bringing in players of great talent and attacking threat such as Gerard Moreno, Nicolas Pepe, Mikautadze, Moleiro and Pape Gueye.

Many creative players who did not take long to leave their mark on the game. A combination between Moleiro, Mikautadze and Gerard through the middle resulted in a fabulous goal by the ever-present Yellow ‘7’. A tremendous footballer who continues to grow his legend and increase his scoring records with every match he plays in the Yellow shirt.

With just two touches, one with his right and the strike with his favoured foot, Gerard scored a goal as subtle as it was beautiful. The Catalan forward put the hosts ahead when the clock still showed an early 13th minute.

Villarreal dominated the game, with and without the ball, against a Sevilla side that showed more organisation than ideas; more will than football. And in that context, the 2-0 did not take long to arrive. Mikautadze, who had earlier assisted, now pushed the ball into the net after a brilliant pass from Moleiro, who reached the byline and lifted it with precision so the Georgian could arrive at the far post and make it 2-0 in the 20th minute. A vibrant spectacle.

At 2-0, the match looked very favourable for Marcelino’s side. But the game was still very young and there was much left to be said. With so much at stake, Sevilla had to react. And they did. In the 35th minute, the Andalusian side, who had been pressing higher, reduced the deficit. From the left flank, Oso controlled a ball behind Freeman, cut inside Pau Navarro and slotted home past Tenas. 2-1.

Before half-time, Sevilla even equalised the contest. They took advantage of their momentum and suffocated a Submarine that could not stop their attacks. In first-half stoppage time, Kike Salas finished strongly from a cross by Vargas from the right to make it 2-2.

In the second half, Sevilla showed belief and managed to turn the score around. In the 72nd minute, Akor Adams made it 2-3 with a powerful shot at the near post. The Yellows, who had produced a fantastic start, could not find that level again after the break.

After the goal, Villarreal pushed forward in search of an equaliser, as defeat seriously jeopardised the objective of third place, leaving it practically to the final home clash against Atlético de Madrid.

The best chance came in the 85th minute at the feet of Pau Navarro. The defender from La Vilavella struck a rebound from the edge of the box and Carmona cleared it off the line. The Submarine ran out of time and will have to keep fighting for third place until the final match against Atlético de Madrid.
