Dejphon Chansiri has been a source of immense controversy throughout the summer transfer window

Sheffield Wednesday suffered one of the worst transfer windows of all time due to their precarious ownership situation.

The past few months have been utterly disastrous for all those involved with the Owls, as late payments, transfer embargoes and fan protests have made for a sour atmosphere around Hillsborough.

Wednesday’s iconic stadium also hasn’t been out of the limelight, as complications with the ground’s North Stand led to the Sheffield City Council closing the area due to safety concerns.

The Steel City side ultimately resolved these issues with their ground, but turmoil continues to roll on around the club.

Wednesday’s financial woes severely limited their transfer business, bringing in just Harry Amass and Ethan Horvath on loan deals. On the other hand, they saw a vast number of players walk out the doors at Hillsborough, including the likes of Djeidi Gassama, Josh Windass and Michael Smith.

All of this chaos comes back to one man – Dejphon Chansiri.

The Owls’ owner has financially failed Wednesday this summer and plunged their future into the unknown.

Despite surviving the window, it seems like there is only one way forward for Chansiri and Sheffield Wednesday.

Dejphon Chansiri must sell Sheffield Wednesday amid John Textor talk

After everything the Wednesday supporters have gone through, there is no way back for Chansiri and selling the club is the only way that all parties can move on.

John Textor has been a name constantly linked with the Owls during takeover rumours, with talk intensifying following the American businessman’s decision to sell his stake in Crystal Palace earlier in the summer.

According to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon, Textor has recently held preliminary discussions with representatives of Chansiri, though a formal summit between the two men is yet to be confirmed.

One sticking point continues to be the Thai businessman’s £100 million valuation of the club, which is simply unrealistic and won’t help negotiations over a potential sale one iota.

Chansiri previously rejected a £40 million offer for Wednesday earlier in the summer, which is a figure far closer to market expectations.

There is no way back for Chansiri at Sheffield Wednesday, but as long as he sticks to his £100 million valuation, it’s almost impossible that a new owner will come in and pay that sum.

Textor seems like a viable option to take over the Steel City Side and is a source of optimism for Wednesday supporters as he continues to show interest in buying the club.

That said, the longer Chansiri refuses to bring his asking price down, the more he risks ruining a potential deal.

Sheffield Wednesday sale would breathe life back into the club

The Owls currently sit 23rd in the Championship after four games, with an inexperienced squad and murmurs over a potential points penalty.

It isn’t unfair to suggest that Wednesday are one of the favourites to go down this season, but if Chansiri sells up, there could yet be another lease of life around Hillsborough.

Supporters would relish the opportunity to watch their team under new ownership, even if it was in the third-tier of English football.

Time will tell when Chansiri decides enough is enough, but that moment can’t come soon enough for everyone involved with Sheffield Wednesday.
