Dejphon Chansiri has faced further criticism amid the latest takeover developments at Sheffield Wednesday.

Dejphon Chansiri was removed from his post as Sheffield Wednesday owner earlier this season, but his damaging legacy continues to linger over the South Yorkshire outfit like a dark cloud.

Chansiri plunged the Owls into administration, which caused them to be relegated from the Championship to League One in February, owing to points deductions.

The Thai businessman's inability to pay players and staff on time led to several high-profile departures last summer, including that of former boss Danny Rohl.

David Storch's Arise consortium are currently vying to complete their Wednesday takeover, but the Owls will face a further 15-point deduction in League One next term, as their bid fell below the amount required to pay creditors 25p in the pound.

The Owls restored some pride when they held Premier League-bound Coventry City to a 0-0 draw last Saturday, but their season has been truly miserable.

Meanwhile, taking to X, Storch shared a statement that said: "A 15-point penalty is set to be imposed at the start of next season. We fundamentally disagree with this decision.

"We also requested the opportunity for this matter to be reviewed through independent arbitration, going as far as offering to cover all associated legal costs ourselves in the interest of transparency and fairness. That request has been denied.

"This is deeply frustrating, not just for us, but for everyone who cares about the future of Sheffield Wednesday. What makes this situation particularly difficult is that it is entirely unique.

"A significant portion of the club's debt sits with its former owner, Dejphon Chansiri, who has not agreed to write down or restructure that debt.

"We have made repeated attempts, through the administrators, to engage with Mr Chansiri in order to find a constructive resolution. Those requests have gone unanswered."

Following those developments, Football League World asked our Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, for his thoughts on the latest actions by the Owls' failed owner.

McKenna said: "With the latest news about Chansiri, just when you think your opinion of him couldn't get lower, he just continues to deliver on that front.

"He is clearly determined to cause more misery to Sheffield Wednesday, a club that he has absolutely wrecked through his chaotic, immature, frankly appalling management.

"Even though he has left the club, the wreckage of his time in charge still hampers us, and he is simply refusing to do anything to help in this regard.

"He is just showing his usual ignorance and rudeness, and not even having the good grace to engage with the Storch consortium. If he had any sort of shame, he would realise that it's just completely untenable for him to be demanding any money at all.

"Even the fact that they are offering to restructure the debt, so he will get money, but he just refuses to do so. It just shows his pathetic approach, and his complete lack of understanding.

"Chansiri came out and berated people, saying that he loves the club, and he would do nothing to harm it. That has proven to be completely untrue time after time.

"He has just shown it again here. He doesn't care for Sheffield Wednesday, he just cares for Dejphon Chansiri, and that is a detriment to our proud football club."

EFL rules have done Sheffield Wednesday a disservice

The EFL's rules regarding points deductions for sides that enter administration are supposed to act as deterrents against the likes of Chansiri.

However, in this instance, the 15-point penalty Wednesday are set to face next season will only punish their incoming owners, players, boss Henrik Pedersen, and supporters.

If Storch completes his takeover by 1 May, the timescale he is determined to stick to, the Owls will be able to be active in the summer transfer market.
