Lamare Bogarde is thought to be on the radar of the Rams, who have lost Curtis Nelson to a major injury issue.

Derby County are the latest team to take an interest in Aston Villa's Lamare Bogarde.

This is according to Darren Witcoop, who also revealed that Swansea City are also keen on the Dutchman, and have even gone as far as making an enquiry for the 21-year-old.

Overseas clubs have taken an interest in Bogarde as well, who has spent the first half of the 2024/25 campaign at Villa Park, following his loan spell at Bristol Rovers last season.

Another loan move could benefit the 21-year-old though, considering his game time under Unai Emery has been limited this term.

This time last year, it was Cardiff City, Southampton and Watford taking an interest in the centre-back, who can also play as a central midfielder.

Now the player is no longer attached to a loan club, that could give interested teams a real chance to secure the Dutchman's services for the remainder of the season.

Derby County join race for Lamare Bogarde

According to Witcoop, Derby are now in the race for Bogarde, though it remains to be seen whether he will become Paul Warne's side's second signing of the January transfer window.

The Rams have already moved for Lars-Jorgen Salvesen, who looks set to strengthen their forward department. Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates may be options when both are fit, but the Norwegian could prove to be a very shrewd acquisition.

But at the other end of the pitch, they are currently struggling.

Their centre-back department is lacking depth at this point - and with Curtis Nelson set to be on the sidelines for a long time with a knee ligament injury - they will be looking to add to this area before the window closes.

With Nelson's injury in mind, Bogarde could be a very good signing.

The Dutchman may have played in League One last season, but he has played at a senior level for Villa this season, and the Championship may be the right division for him for now.

With the player likely to win plenty of game time at Pride Park, a loan move to the East Midlands could prove to be beneficial for all parties.

This is why Villa should be open to loaning the player to the Rams.
