In a match marked by tension and controversy, Benfica’s Champions League loss to Real Madrid on Tuesday, 17 February came with a notable landmark at Estádio da Luz.

It was nearly surpassed in December 2025, when 64,914 watched the 1-1 derby with Sporting.

The fifth-highest crowd is now Benfica v Nacional in 2015/16, with 64,525. This season, 64,511 attended the tie with Nice in Champions League qualifying for the league phase.
