Ruben Dias say a resurgent City will go into Wednesday night’s Premier League home clash with Nottingham Forest sitting ‘exactly where we want to be.’
Pep Guardiola’s side will welcome the East Midlanders to the Etihad for a 19:30 (UK) kick-off on the back of a superb run of form that has seen the Blues win six games on the bounce in all competitions.
As well as sitting within touching distance of Premier League leaders Arsenal, City are also through to the Carabao Cup final, into the last 16 of the Champions League and fifth round of the FA Cup.
For Dias it’s the perfect scenario as the squad gears up for the challenge of facing Forest.
“We’re exactly where we want to be. We’re in all the competitions,” Dias declared
“I think that maybe in the first three games [of the season] there was a phase of adaptation to which we had to react very positively.
“From then on, I think the team has been strong, consistent.
“I think we’ve been making consistent progress right from the start.
“I think we still have a lot of potential right now and I think we’re exactly where we want to be.
“We’re close to all the goals.
“There’s a lot going on and it’s very important right now to focus solely on our next game.”
That immediate priority is on tackling a Forest side who are battling to preserve their top-flight status.
Forest will travel to the Etihad now under the leadership of experienced manager Vitor Pereira who took over the City Ground hot seat last month.
And Dias believes that given both the quality within their squad and their Premier League position, Forest will pose a significant threat as City seek to record a seventh successive win in all competitions.
“I think that because they’re not in the most comfortable position, they become more dangerous,” the Portuguese centre half pointed out.
“And yes, it’s a difficult game.
“They’re a team with a lot of quality players, just like any other team in the Premier League.
“The mentality is always that we have to be at our best to get the three points and move on.”
With the advent of March, it means City are now firmly approaching the business end of the season.
And with so much at stake, it means every game carries even greater meaning and significance.
However, for Dias, such high pressure and expectation is something to both savour and embrace, especially given the finite life of a footballer’s elite career.
“As much as it can seem intense at times, in moments of stress, living this adventure has always been my dream,” Dias declared.
“It’s my greatest passion. It’s my favourite thing to do.
“And as such, it’s like reminding myself of it every day.
“Enjoying it as much as I can each new day and living each new game as it comes.
“My biggest dream is to be able to live in the present as much as possible. To be able to limit myself to enjoying today, today’s training.
“Enjoy tomorrow’s game, of course, as a result of the training and preparation that has been done for the game.
“And to live like that every game, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.
“Remembering that in a few years’ time everything will be different.”
