According to SuperDepor.com, Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez fractured a finger on his right hand during the warm-up before the UEFA Europa League final. The official medical update called it minor, so he will not need surgery. He is not expected to miss the World Cup in Canada, the United States and Mexico, which starts in 20 days.

He acknowledged the problem after Aston Villa’s 3-0 win over Freiburg, and X-rays later confirmed the fracture.

The final, in Istanbul, Türkiye, took place on Wednesday 20 May, and Martínez completed the full 90 minutes despite the pain. The success delivered his first trophy since leaving Arsenal in 2021, in Europe’s second-tier competition.

He has started specialised treatment and will rest his right hand for a few days. He will continue training, but cannot use the injured hand during sessions.

He will miss Argentina’s pre-World Cup friendlies against Honduras and Iceland in the United States, but should have no problem returning to the starting XI once their title defence begins on Tuesday 16 June.
