Dida, a Corinthians idol and 2002 World Cup winner with Brazil, says he still supports the club.
"Unfortunately, I do not follow football that closely any more. I support Corinthians because I had a spectacular spell here, we were champions. I am very happy because I think they still recognise me, what I did for the team. I really hope that Corinthians always grow, because it is a great team, it has great supporters. We are happy when Corinthians win." He told Gazeta Esportiva.
The goalkeeper had two spells at Corinthians, the first between 1999 and 2000, when he won the 1999 Brasileiro and the 2000 Fifa Club World Cup, the club’s first. After the world title, midway through 2000, he returned to Milan, who had loaned him to the São Paulo side.
A little over a year later, at the end of 2001, he came back to Parque São Jorge on another loan. His second stint lasted about six months and brought two more trophies, the Torneio Rio-São Paulo and the Copa do Brasil in 2002.
After his farewell to Timão, he joined Brazil’s squad that lifted the country’s fifth World Cup in 2002, staged in Japan and South Korea. Across his career he went to three World Cups, featuring in 1998 in France as runners-up to the hosts and in 2006 in Germany as Brazil’s starting goalkeeper, when they exited in the quarter-finals.
