Ruben Amorim’s first port of call after taking over the reins at Manchester United was to strengthen in the wingback position, with the club not having an outright wingback when he first walked through the doors.

Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu arrived in January, and he has been used on both flanks, but he excels on the left.

Even though his end product has not always been top-notch, his industry knowledge and expertise in the position have certainly been helpful.

There were murmurs that another wingback could be targeted in the summer, but The Daily Mail have now claimed that is not a priority in the market.

Wingback not a top priority

At right wingback, the head coach is happy with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui while Amad can be used to devastating effect as seen from the final game of the season.

On the left, Amorim has Dorgu, Luke Shaw is he is fit, and Harry Amass, with the Carrington graduate eager to stay and fight for his place despite loan interest.

Not to forget Diego Leon who was signed from Cerro Porteno in January and will arrive in the summer. The Portuguese tactician is likely to take a look at his suitability and readiness in pre-season.

Interestingly, the initial plan is to try and allow him time to adjust to his new surroundings, like Sekou Kone, and the Paraguayan will start off with the academy sides.

“Young Paraguayan Diego Leon will arrive this summer from Cerro Porteno to bolster options at left wing-back, although the door remains open to strengthen further.

Diego Leon to start with the academy

“Mail Sport understands that the plan for Leon is to start off with the youth sides and build his way up to a first team level due to his rawness.

“Harry Amass turned down a loan move away in January and the feeling is that he is determined to stay and fight for his place alongside Patrick Dorgu, although more meetings are set to take place for a lot of academy players to assess just how much game time is there for them with only one match a week next season.

“Amad Diallo, Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot provide solid depth at right wing-back for United and while the door isn’t closed to more, it is much lower down the priority list as part of Amorim’s summer rebuild.”

For now, the attack is INEOS’ priority after which they are likely to try and sign a midfielder before moving on to the backline if budget permits.
