Diego Maradona shirt sets record price at auction | OneFootball

A Barcelona-era Diego Maradona shirt has sold for a record sum at a global auction, becoming the most expensive of his shirts and ranking among the standout sports memorabilia pieces of recent years.

According to SuperDepor.com, Matchday Football Auctions authenticated and ran the sale, with the shirt fetching 145,648.51 dollars, rising to 179,207.67 dollars with commission.

The Barcelona v Athletic Bilbao decider in the 1984 Copa del Rey, with the return in Madrid finishing 1-0, ended in a mass melee.

After the final whistle, Maradona headed towards the dressing rooms, encountering two opponents who mocked him. He headbutted Núñez in the mouth and punched Miguel Sola on the jaw, an episode that earned the Argentina captain a three-month suspension.

Matchday Football Auctions also helped recover, exhibit and sell the Andreas Brehme shirt from the 1990 World Cup final penalty, which is now displayed at the Fussball Museum de Dortmund.
