Dieguinho: Childhood with Gui Negão, daily life with Depay at Corinthians

On the evening of last Thursday (5), Corinthians hosted Capivariano at Neo Química Arena in a match valid for the sixth round of the first phase of the Campeonato Paulista, and ended up triumphing 3-0. With the three points, the Alvinegro rose from seventh to fourth place with 11 points (three wins, two draws, and one loss – nine goals scored and five conceded).

Midfielder Dieguinho, who scored the opening goal of the match—his first as a professional player—commented on the special night. The number 61's goal came eight minutes into the second half, after a pass from left-back Matheus Bidu for the youngster to finish into the top corner of the opposing goalkeeper: “I am very happy with my first professional goal, I had been anxious for this goal since last year. And I am very happy to have scored the first goal of the match and to do it alongside other homegrown players. Tonight was beautiful,” he began.

He was then asked about his long-standing relationship on and off the field with striker Gui Negão, with whom he played in Corinthians' youth teams: “He’s been with me since we were 9 years old, playing together. So, we celebrated a lot there for my goal, for his goal, I’m very happy. Because we know it’s the result of a lot of work over time and to be able to end the night like this is very satisfying. Sometimes, during our free time, we go out to eat together, we like to do that too, to hang out, and I think that’s very important to bring onto the field as well,” he continued.

Later, the 18-year-old praised the celebration by the Fiel Torcida and already looked ahead to the derby next Sunday (8), at 8:30 pm (Brasília time), at Neo Química Arena, against Palmeiras, for the seventh round of the first phase of the state championship: “Ah, it was a beautiful party there, right? But we also have to keep our feet on the ground, because Sunday we already have a derby and we’re going all in for the derby. We have to win, especially against Palmeiras. We’re going to give our best, especially if we can leave here with the win, and now it’s at home. Let’s play a great game and beat Palmeiras,” he added.

Dieguinho also spoke about the run of games he’s had since coach Dorival Júnior arrived in April 2025. He also responded about not even being on the bench in the Supercopa do Brasil final against Flamengo, at Estádio Mané Garrincha in Brasília, along with some other youth academy graduates, such as midfielder Gui Amorim, and once again talked about his relationship with Gui Negão.

“Yeah, you’re always evolving, gaining confidence too, right? And I’m very happy, with the games continuing to show this evolution, today I managed to cap it off with a goal and an assist and to keep it going. I think that’s part of the process too, right? We’ll know our place, but we’ll also grow with the opportunities and try to earn our spot on the team.”

“When we play together, we understand each other well. And it’s about keeping it that way, right? Working to see if we get more opportunities like this. We’ve played together since we were 9. And then we moved up the ranks together, always moving up the categories together.”

Finally, he highlighted the importance of striker Memphis Depay in Corinthians’ daily life, as well as his affectionate relationship with the Filhos do Terrão. Dieguinho also detailed the tips he receives from the number 10 on the field: “When we see him, we already call him boss, he always tries to give us advice. He has a lot of experience, played in Europe, top scorer for the Netherlands. So he’s the boss, right? We always try to take his advice, like playing the ball faster sometimes, understanding the game better, having that vision, I think that makes a big difference for us.”
