Dinamo Bucharest end pursuit of Benfica’s Tomás Cruz after talks prove unproductive | OneFootball

Dinamo Bucharest have ended their pursuit of Benfica attacking midfielder Tomás Cruz for the new season after talks failed to convince him about the Romanian club’s project.

According to Totul pentru Dinamo, president Andrei Nicolescu said coach Nuno Campos spoke with Cruz by phone, sensed a lack of commitment and advised the club to drop the move. He added that Campos tried to persuade the player but the interaction was not positive, and Cruz did not view a switch as a step forward.

Dinamo had reached agreement with Benfica and looked to improve the financial package for the Luxembourg international to seal the deal, but Cruz’s reservations prompted the club to step back.

Nicolescu said that, even if they had convinced him financially, the coach no longer believed the midfielder would arrive with the necessary desire to develop, and feared frustration for both player and team if expectations were not met.

Cruz remains at Benfica.
