The season is just a couple of months old, but already big sweeping judgements are coming down from above about who’s good and who’s no good.

Pundit Alan Smith has come down hard one one Chelsea signing from the summer. It’s early days for Jamie Gittens, but of all the signings we made he’s certainly struggled the most so far.

“Who knows how Chelsea feel when it comes to these comings and goings,” Smith said in the Metro when asked if Chelsea might regret selling Noni Madueke to bring in Gittens.

“Jamie Gittens hasn’t been an upgrade though, he’s just been disappearing up blind alleys, and we’ve not seen the best form from him yet.

“That was a strange move. It felt unusual at the time, and it looks even more out of place now. But that’s Chelsea at the moment, isn’t it?”

That’s a little harsh – in general the positive results of our strategy have become pretty obvious. But so far he’s right that this doesn’t look like a switch which is going to help our bank balance or our points total.

The good news is that he’s impressed for England Under-21s during this international break, hopefully helping him gain a little confidence. The next few months for him at Chelsea will be vital – minutes will be in short supply if he can’t adapt quickly to Enzo Maresca’s demands.

In other news…

Chelsea are being linked with Brazil full back Souza, with co-controlling owner Todd Boehly apparently having given his seal of approval to the deal.

Meanwhile, Estevao has been left out of Brazil’s starting XI for their game against Japan today, improving our chances of seeing him this weekend when we face Nottingham Forest.
