RC Strasbourg president Marc Keller faced the media this Wednesday alongside newly-named head coach Gary O’Neil. The former France international, who previously owned the Ligue 1 side before its 2023 takeover by Chelsea owners BlueCo, was quizzed on Liam Rosenior’s departure to fill in Chelsea’s managerial vacancy.

Rosenior’s exit has been met by discontent amid Strasbourg’s fanbase. One of Strasbourg’s most important fan groups even called for Keller to resign following Rosenior’s “humiliating” transfer. “Liam’s departure was not expected. I can understand the surprise, even the disappointment, of some of our supporters. Do you think I’m happy about it?”

Keller added that Rosenior’s mid-season Strasbourg departure was neither expected or desired by anyone at the Ligue 1 club. The Strasbourg president said he and Rosenior trusted each other, although the former felt that the former Hull City FC manager dreamt of an opportunity to coach in the Premier League. “My position was then to adapt. He was allowed to speak to Chelsea.”
