Dominic Calvert-Lewin addressed his England World Cup hopes after inspiring another Leeds United win, crediting Daniel Farke’s tactical tweaks for his upturn.
Oliver Glasner had warned the Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor pairing could hurt his side, and it did at Elland Road. The striker dominated the first half, scoring twice to reach seven for the season.
Home fans serenaded him as England’s number nine as he matched Mark Viduka’s 2003 streak, making it five Premier League games in a row and equalling his personal best.
“I enjoy having bodies around me. I think it can be a lonely role sometimes when you’re up there on your own, and sometimes you have to flick it on and chase it and do the dirty bits, really, which I’m more than capable of doing. But when you get bodies around you, you can link play and get more of a feeling in the game. And I think that’s why I’ve had the success lately.”
He was speaking to Sky Sports.
“I don’t get carried away. My job remains the same, whether I’m scoring or not scoring. I continue to do the basics well, lead the line for my team, and the rest takes care of itself.”
Farke’s system, with players close to him, has helped unlock his form, and after past injuries he now looks a summer bargain.
