Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin returned for England in Friday night’s 1-1 draw with Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay at Wembley, and is due to leave the camp before Tuesday’s friendly against Japan.

The federation announced in a Saturday night squad update that eight players are due to depart and a revised 27-man group will prepare for Japan at Wembley. Those leaving include Aaron Ramsdale, Fikayo Tomori, Calvert-Lewin and John Stones, who returns to Manchester City for assessment after a training issue, plus Adam Wharton and Noni Madueke with knocks, and Arsenal pair Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka for medical checks.

Thomas Tuchel rested several of his stars, including captain Harry Kane. Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke led the line, with Calvert-Lewin among the substitutes.

Calvert-Lewin replaced Solanke shortly after the break and linked play brightly. He then headed wide from a few yards when well placed.

He later attacked a corner that ran through for Ben White to tap in at the far post, the defender’s first goal for his country. Uruguay levelled with a controversial late penalty to secure a 1-1 draw.
