The current European champions, both in national teams and club teams, have won the awards for the world's best goalkeepers at the Ballon d'Or. Gigi Donnarumma, currently at Manchester City, and Hannah Hampton, of Chelsea, claimed the Yashin Award.
Signed by City in the last transfer window, Donnarumma earned the title of the world's best goalkeeper for his season in Paris. The Italian goalkeeper secured PSG's goal during the unprecedented Champions League title campaign and the continuation of their national dominance.
Donnarumma received the award for the second time in his career, having previously won it in 2021, and broke the streak of Emiliano Martínez, who had won the trophy in the recent seasons. In addition to the Argentine, Donnarumma won the contest against Alisson, from Liverpool, Yassine Bono, from Al Hilal, Lucas Chevalier, from Lille, Thibaut Courtois, from Real Madrid, Jan Oblak, from Atlético de Madrid, David Raya, from Arsenal, Matz Sels, from Nottingham Forest, and Yann Sommer, from Inter Milan.
Among the women, the award went to the current European champion in national teams. Hannah Hampton, from Chelsea, won the contest for the world's best female goalkeeper. The English goalkeeper also collected trophies with the Blues and was part of the team that won three national titles last season.
Hampton, aged 24, outperformed the competition from Ann-Katrin Berger, from Gotham FC, Cata Coll, from Barcelona, Chiamaka Nnadozie, from Brighton, and Daphne van Domselaar, from Arsenal.
