‘Don’t rule it out’: Rashford tipped for summer Man Utd revival by critical club legend

Despite agreeing to spend the remainder of the 2024/2025 campaign – and potentially beyond – with Aston Villa, Gary Neville believes Marcus Rashford could well return to Old Trafford in the summer to revive his Manchester United career.

It’s a sorry state of affairs all around, to be honest. Seeing an academy graduate, who’s devoted 20 years of his life to the club, cast aside by the manager before being offloaded to another Premier League side is never the way it should’ve been for Rashford – of all players.

That’s not to say Ruben Amorim wasn’t well within his rights to exile the 27-year-old from the squad, though. Barring the odd leaks – and potentially fabricated stories from journalists – fans have no idea what was really going on behind the scenes. Amorim seems like a straightforward coach, so there had to have been method behind the madness.

Nonetheless, Rashford will embark on a new chapter in his career in the claret and blue of the Villans. He will enjoy European action in the form of the Champions League, while the club also remain in the FA Cup and battling for a top-four finish – currently sitting six points adrift of Chelsea in fourth.

Neville: Don’t rule out Rashford playing for United again

As for the prospect of him representing his boyhood team again, you’d imagine the chances are somewhat slim, given Villa have the option of making his move permanent upon the culmination of the term – but it’s not entirely off the table.

When pressed on Rashford returning to Old Trafford in the summer during last night’s Monday Night Football coverage, Neville told the Sky Sports panel (as cited by Football365): “It might be difficult under Ruben Amorim as he’s planted his flag in the ground on what he’s said about Marcus Rashford and that’ll be disappointing for Rashford.

“Don’t rule it out. He could tear it up, and then United could want him back, but if he disappoints, then United may end up with him back. The ideal situation is for him to thrive at Villa. It’s sad. I do feel he has the talent to play for United.”

“It was needed after the comments of the manager in recent weeks – there was no way back,” the ex-skipper continued.

“He needs to get out and relaunch his career. He’s going to a very good team. A team that are better than Manchester United.

“The manager will give him instruction, and in this period of his career, he needs it. The style of the football at United hasn’t been great, and he needs detail in his game. Unai Emery will give him that.”
